Versatile and compact:
VOGEL presents its innovative MPL gear series

At the MDA – Motion, Drive & Automation 2013 in Hanover, VOGEL Antriebstechnik is
presenting its newly developed MPL series. The new gearbox type supplements the
already comprehensive range supplied by the drive specialists by an economical and
energy-efficient solution. The MPL series is particularly suitable for use in projects
with cost-optimisation requirements from automation through robotics to pick-and-
place applications. In addition, the compact design and the use of synthetic low-
viscosity grease extend the possible uses for the servo planetary gearbox.

At the MDA – Motion, Drive & Automation fair from 8th to 12th April 2013 in Hanover,
VOGEL Antriebstechnik will be revealing its new design of fair booth and presenting
gearboxes from the new MPL series. With their economic design and high
performance, the servo planetary gearboxes are supplementing the already
comprehensive range produced by this company in the Swabian region of Germany.
“The well thought-out design and large mechanical load capacity of our new series
coupled with high power density are convincing,” Emir Erden, Head of Sales at
VOGEL Antriebstechnik, explains. “With our new development, we want to do justice
to requirements in cost-optimised projects – without any loss of our usual quality or
performance,” Managing Partner Volker Uhlmann adds. This series of gearboxes is
used in numerous areas of application from classic machine and plant construction
through printing and packaging technology to automation, robotics and handling.
Modern product design and food safety approval
During development, VOGEL Antriebstechnik paid special attention to the product
design, which is becoming more and more important on the market. With its clean
shape and smooth surfaces, the MPL series, just like the MPG series before it, is not
only doing justice to the increasing demand for an attractive appearance, it also
makes top functional properties available. Since any dirt adhesion can be removed
easily due to the lack of traps, the series is suitable for use in the food industry. The
housing has a protection rating IP64 protecting the inside of the gearbox from dust
and splashwater for safe operation and easy cleaning. The gearboxes are also
produced with synthetic low-viscosity grease.
MPL series fulfils the requirements of modern servo motors
The MPL series are high-quality gearboxes with large nominal and acceleration
torques as well as high input speeds which are tailor-made to the requirements of
modern servo motors. The series with the sizes 050, 100 and 200 has been designed
for simple applications in the medium precision and torque range.
VOGEL Antriebstechnik is currently supplying the new MPL gearbox series with a
one- or two-stage transmission ratios and a torque range of between 50 and 220 Nm.
The high range of transmission ratios (i = 3 to 100) and the wide range of motor
connections available as standard (motor flange and motor shaft connections) allow
the versatile use of the servo planetary gearbox. “We set great store in energy
efficiency while designing the MPL series,” says Jens-Peter Horn, Head of
Development at VOGEL. The optimised gearbox series impresses with a high
efficiency of up to 97 percent. The backlash of the one-stage version is < 8 and of the
two-stage version < 10 angular minutes. Modern industrial design and the greatest
possible compactness round off the well thought-out overall concept of the MPL series
and allow its use even in tight spots which are difficult to access. They can be
mounted both vertically and horizontally.
The quality customers expect from VOGEL Antriebstechnik

For the MPL series, VOGEL Antriebstechnik uses precision-ground gear materials of
the very best quality. The grinding process and its results are checked continually and
automatically, with correction of the necessary parameters. This means that constant
and best possible grinding results are achieved. Production and assembly are carried
out according to the highest quality criteria. Continuous checks and high quality
standards offer the customer maximum reliability. The quality management system of
VOGEL Antriebstechnik is certified to ISO 9001 : 2008.
Large variety with short delivery times
“The MPL series offers an enormous variety which enables almost every customer
wish to be fulfilled,” says Emir Erden. The new gearbox generation has been
completely integrated in VOGEL Antriebtechnik's well-designed modular system.
Important toothed parts and motor connections can be combined and adapted easily
and flexibly to different motor requirements. Thus the drive specialists have been able
to significantly improve delivery performance once again. The supplier is able to react
to the multiple requirements of the market within a very short time, since almost all
components are continually available on stock. Deliveries with standard motor flange
and motor shaft connections can thus be made extremely quickly.

New fair booth – new product organisation

Alongside the MPL series, VOGEL Antriebstechnik is also showcasing industrial
planetary gearboxes in Hall 5, Booth D03 at the MDA in Hanover. These gearboxes
can be produced up to a rated output torque of 50,000 Nm and a static output torque
of 100,000 Nm.
In addition, VOGEL Antriebstechnik will be presenting the reorganisation of its product
divisions. In future, the gearboxes are divided into the classes Servo Gears,
Mechanical Gears and Industrial Gears. The Servo Gears division includes gearboxes
with high speeds for short cycle times and low backlash. The Mechanical Gears
segment covers angular and distribution gearboxes through to gear sets. The
Industrial Gears series are suitable for applications with high torque requirements, for
example in so-called azimuth gearboxes for wind turbines.
The new areas of expertise in development and production are increasing the
innovative strength and manufacturing quality of the gear specialist even further. “Our
consistent customer orientation is the benchmark for our decision,” Volker Uhlmann,
Managing Partner at VOGEL Antriebstechnik, explains. “We are boosting our
strengths of technical advice even more and making it easier for our customers to
select the gearbox that is best for their application.”

About VOGEL Antriebstechnik
Wilhelm Vogel GmbH works with its customers to develop concepts for the economic
design of their application. For this purpose, the most important peripheral parameters
such as application conditions, loads, service life, speeds, movement workflows etc.
are examined and recorded in advance in order to find the best product solution.
The products made by the medium-sized company based in the industrial region
around Stuttgart include angular gearboxes such as spiral bevel gearboxes and bevel
helical gearboxes as well as coaxial planetary gearboxes in a wide range of different
sizes and versions. For more than 60 years Wilhelm Vogel GmbH has been dedicated
to products and the market with a maximum of quality consciousness. The Swabian
company takes an active part in forming the future of gearbox construction with its
developments, however, thus ensuring the marketability of its customers.
